Charriol are pleased to announce that one of their most recent creations for men, the COLVMBVS ™ Grande Date GMT timepiece has been chosen by Montres Passion magazine to compete as ‘Watch of the Year 2013’.

Participating within in the men’s timepieces category, the Charriol watch is among a total of 40 men’s and women’s watches in the competition.

Montres Passion is the reference publication for the horology industry in French-speaking Switzerland. The region is home to many of the world’s greatest watch manufacturers, from La Chaux-de-Fonds to Geneva.

With all of its watches made in Switzerland, Charriol are delighted to enjoy recognition in their local market, especially from a jury comprised of passionate journalists whose expertise matches their high standards.

The COLVMBVS Grande Date GMT™ model is presented to the jury early October during the final decisive meeting, which will determine the 2013 winners. The model will also be on show during the prize-giving ceremony, due to take place in Geneva on October 25th.

In the run-up to the event, the public can have their vote, too, and the people’s favourite timepiece will be awarded the ‘Prix du Public’

The COLVMBVS™ Grande Date GMT includes a Grande Date Technotime 651 movement with GMT module, as well as a decorated oscillating weight. The piece, released in series of 300 pieces, is one of several created by Charriol over the years in tribute to the intrepid Italian explorer, Christopher Columbus.

Many nautical motifs decorate the watch, from the compass rose-style interlocking pattern around the stainless steel case, to the crown in the shape of a clevis, a fastening pin typically found on rigging. Special finishings on the dial include a guilloché sunray motif, sun-brushed central dial and circular brushed seconds counter. The Grande Date display is indicated via a handsome system of double-discs.

In 2006, the Charriol Kucha model won the Watch of the Year prize. Charriol has high hopes for its new flagship timepiece.
