Geneva-based watchmaker CHARRIOL signs a 3-year partnership with motor racing organisation V de V Sports

For 25 years, Eric Van de Vyver and his team have been running endurance racing events that have evolved in line with technological advances and drivers’ expectations. The European Endurance V de V GT/Tourism/LMP/PFV Challenge is growing rapidly and is now one of the greatest endurance races in the world, such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans or Spa.

The V de V Endurance Series consists of five competitions that bring together more than 150 cars and 250 drivers at each of the seven meetings in 2018. There are four and six-hour endurance races, along with six 20-minute sprint events.

At the end of the season, several prizes are awarded in each category of the different disciplines, with 14 champions crowned in total (general, by class, Prestige, Gentleman, etc.).

Philippe-Charriol-vdev

This new partnership is very much in line with CHARRIOL’s motor sports activities. In 1996, Philippe Charriol, a motor racing enthusiast, created the Philippe Charriol SuperSportS Trophy with the Stéphane Ratel Organisation: an exclusive race for Venturis, then Lamborghinis, on the European circuits. Philippe Charriol then joined the world of racing on ice by becoming the Official Timekeeper of the Andros Trophy, a race he entered for twelve years.

Since 2002, the entrepreneur and his cars, which all sport the signature prune colour of his eponymous watch brand, have appeared regularly in the French races and the FIA World Endurance GT Championship. The vehicles include the Venturi 400GT, Lamborghini Diablo SVR, Diablo GTR, Corvette ZR6, and a unique concept car, the CHARRIOL SF10, made by Solution F. Produced by the same team and developed using wind tunnel testing, the CHARRIOL Foenix now enables Philippe to monopolise the podiums of the 2018 V de V Endurance GT Series.

Philippe Charriol’s passion for this challenging sport has inspired him to create several remarkable timepieces. The latest of these is the automatic chronograph watch, GRAN CELTICA™ SuperSportS. A limited edition of this model in the V de V colours will be awarded to the 2018 champions.

The GRAN CELTICA™ SuperSportS is inspired by the world of motor sports, reflecting the long-standing connection to motor racing of CHARRIOL and the passion of Philippe Charriol, an experienced racing driver.
For this new, dressier version, the traditional black rubber bracelet with cable embellishments has been replaced by a steel bracelet with polished, satin-finished links.

The curved bezel, originally two-tone, now shows polished steel and a satin sunray pattern.
The watch expresses its racing spirit through original design elements, such as the sun-brushed silver guilloché dial, coloured indexes, second hand in the shape of a turbine wheel and black rubber screw-down crown that evokes a race car wheel.
In a robust 46mm size, the GRAN CELTICA™ SuperSportS features an ETA Valjoux 7750 movement. The dial is housed under an exceptional curved glass case, the case back, also in glass, showcases the personalised oscillating weight.
Available at selected watch and jewellery retailers and the charriol.com online shop at a price of 3’590 CHF.
